Northwye was a small community about a mile north of Rolla on US 66. Coming north out of Rolla on US 63/66, 63 split off to the left and headed north while 66 continued east into Northwye. Between the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy (now Missouri S&T) and Northwye the combined highway was lined with hotels, truck stops, and other businesses oriented toward travelers. Back in the '60s when Volkswagen was known for building dealerships in small towns, Northwye had a VW dealership. The road shown on the map as Historic US 66 is actually a later alignment, the earlier one now shown as local road 2000.
