Photo #6 has an interesting history of its own. Built sometime around 1894, it was the home of Thomas Walsh and his family. Walsh became a millionaire in 1902 when he sold his Camp Bird Mine near Ouray for $5,200,000. They then moved to Washington, D.C. His daughter, Evalyn Walsh McLean wrote the book "Father Struck It Rich" telling of the family who wanted for nothing. Mrs. McLean was the last private owner of the famous Hope Diamond, said to be cursed to those who owned it.
