Pleasant Hill was originally located south of the current cemetery. Mostly destroyed by union forces during the Civil War, the citizens chose to move the town approximately a mile southwest when the Missouri Pacific reached the low ground near Big Creek. The nearby settlement of Wyoming was surrounded by the relocated and new buildings and citizens of Pleasant Hill.
