Description

Coosa County Jail was posted to the National Register of Historic Places on June 20, 1974 (#74000407)

Old Coosa County Jail is located in Rockford, Alabama one block from the Hwy 231/Co Rd 22 intersection (the main intersection in Rockford). The building is a 3 story rock style building. The sign out front says "Old Coosa County Jail Museum" but there is no listing of times and/or days of operation. There is very little information about the jail but the main years of significance for the jail was from 1825 to 1849. William M. Goggans was Sheriff in the early 1900ís. He was elected in the November election of 1910 and took office in January, 1911. He had two deputies, Mr. George Gosdin of Goodwater and Mr. Tom Tippitt, who is believed to have lived in the Richville area.
