Description

The college was founded during the Territory's growing educational movement started by church groups and local citizenry determined to bring political, social and economic stability to the frontier. The church groups were primarily Congregationalist, and a Congregationalist minister, Dr. Joseph Ward, was largely responsible for the establishment of the college. -- Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS SD-14)
