Map

Description

The Luna is an early example of a diesel-electric propelled vessel and one of a handful of wooden-hulled tugboats in operating condition remaining in the United States. She is also the last full-sized wooden harbor tug on the Gulf and Atlantic Coasts. The successful operation of the Luna was a major influence on tugboat propulsion design in this and other countries. -- National Historic Landmark statement of significance, April 11, 1989
