Description

Completed in 1847, this is one of the first Italian-style palazzo designs in America. Architect John Notman (1810-1865) designed this structure; his design was the winner in a competition in which Strickland, Haviland, and Walter all took part. -- National Historic Landmark statement of significance, December 8, 1976
