Description 

The oldest operating platform carousel in the U.S. and may be the oldest carousel of any type in the country. Is one of two surviving examples of the work of the Charles W. F. Dare Company, a major carousel manufacturer, and has been in the community since 1884. -- National Historic Landmark statement of significance, February 27, 1987
