Description
This structure is representative of the commitment of Stephen T. Mather, first Director of the National Park Service, to an architectural aesthetic appropriate for the National Park lands. He personally funded this structure, which became the design standard for building in the National Park System through World War II. -- National Historic Landmark statement of significance, May 28, 1987
