Description 

From 1916 until his death, this two story frame house was the residence of Gari Melchers (1860-1932), distinguished landscape and portrait painter. Among Melchers' work are the murals, PEACE and WAR, which he completed for the Library of Congress. -- National Historic Landmark statement of significance, December 21, 1965
