For most of his first 21 years, this cottage is where Eugene G. O'Neill (1888-1953), one of America's outstanding dramatists, spent his summers. The house served as inspiration for several of O'Neill's plays, including LONG DAYS' JOURNEY INTO NIGHT. -- National Historic Landmark statement of significance, July 17, 1971
