Robert Rolfs began making billfolds in 1915 in West Bend, and soon expanded his business to hire more than 175 workers. This first part of this building was constructed in 1924. An addition, including the tower, was added in 1929 and another addition in 1933. In that era, Amity Leather became the largest manufacturer of wallets in the United States.
