Description

A masterpiece of 'trompe l'oeil', the elements of the rugged chalet design of this industrial building (1926) are overscaled to fool the observer into believing the structure is half its true size. All of the original diesel equipment that provided power to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon remains in the building. -- National Historic Landmark statement of significance, May 28, 1987
