Description 

Dating from the turn of the century, Fort Myer was the site of the earliest experiments in military aviation conducted by the Wright Brothers in 1908. Since 1909 Quarters 1 (1899) on "Generals Row" has been the home of the Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Army. -- National Historic Landmark statement of significance, November 28, 1972
