Dayton Dam

Dam with powerplant on Fox River @ Dayton, IL

Dayton Dam on Fox River @ Dayton, IL

GS April 2014

This dam replaced a dam built in 1839.

To provide water to the I & M Canal a "feeder" canal was built approximately 1600 feet north of the dam and a portion of it is still visible there. The feeder canal ended where it met the I&M canal south of Marquette St, north of Superior St, and west of Fulton St where the Lateral Canal thru Ottawa started. The old lock is still there and there is a canal trail shelter also.
