While not actually the original Tree That Owns Itself, it is truly the Son of the Tree That Owns Itself as it was grown from an acorn of the original, which fell in 1942. Local legend has it that the tree was deeded to itself and an 8 foot diameter area surrounding it. Some present this as fact, despite the fact that there is no legal document asserting the tree's ownership of itself.
