Plaquemines Parish Courthouse

In ruins
Hwy 15, Pointe a La Hache, Louisiana

Street View

While legally the courthouse for Plaquemines Parish, this building was damaged by fire in 2002. The courthouse was temporarily moved to Belle Chasse (a much larger town more centrally located to the population of the Parish) while the county government attempted figure out what to do with the building. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina devestated most of the town of Pointe a La Hache and stopped any attempts to move the parish courts and government back. Despite all this, there have been at least 3 referendums on legally moving the government and courts permanently to Belle Chasse, all of which has failed, leaving this building as the legal courthouse for the parish.
