Description 

John Day Dam is a 184' high, 7,365' long dam across the Columbia River between Klickitat County, WA and Sherman County, OR. Construction began in 1958 and was completed in 1971 at a cost of $511,000,000.The dam's 16 turbines have a maximum electrical generating capacity of 2,160 megawatts. John Day Dam was built and operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
