John Maonly designed this Spanish Colonial style church dominated by a 125-foot tower capped with a glazed tile dome and a bronze cross. Excavation for the church was begun on February 8, 1926. Rev. Robert Armstrong celebrated the first Mass in the church on Easter Sunday, April 18, 1927. The Diocese of Yakima on July 18, 1951 by Pope Pius XII and St. Paul's was elevated to the status of a cathedral.
