This nine foot tall bronze statue of William H. Seward by Richard Brooks was cast in 1909 and erected on the grounds of that year's Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition. Seward was the U.S. Secretary of State who concluded the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867. The statue was moved to Volunteer Park at the end of the A-Y-P Exposition.
