Description
Byodo-In Temple was dedicated in August 1968 to commemorate the centenary of Japanese immigration to Hawaii. It is a half-size-scale replica of the 900-year-old Buddhist Byodo In temple at Uji near Kyoto, Japan. It is not a functioning Buddhist temple as it does not host a resident monastic community nor an active congregation.Inside the temple is an 18 ft. statue of the Lotus Buddha, a wooden image depicting Amitabha, covered in gold and lacquer. Outside is a three-ton, brass peace bell.
