Orleans is an unincorporated community on the Klamath River in Humboldt County. Originally named Panamnik by the indigenous Karuk people, it was renamed New Orleans Bar by the first miners and settlers. The name was shortened to Orleans Bar in 1855 when the town became the county seat of the now-defunct Klamath County, California. A post office was established in 1857 at which time it became Orleans.
