Description

Flagstaff Hill overlooks overlooks the route of the Oregon Trail south across Virtue Flat and north crossing the Baker Valley where the pioneers got their first view of the Blue Mountains. A section of the wagon wheel rutted trail is still visible to the north of Highway 86. A monument commemorating the centennial of the first wagon train to pass here on the journey from Missouri to the Willamette Valley was erected in 1943 on the south side of the highway. An interpretive center was opened at the top of the hill in 1990.
