Description
Samuel de Champlain became the first European to visit what is now Vermont when he landed at Isle la Motte on July 9, 1609.
A statue of the French explorer was carved from Barre granite by E.L. Weber working at the Vermont Pavillion at Montreal's Expo '67 Worlds Fair. The statue was presented to the town of Isle la Motte the following year.
