Italian American Bank

In ruins
460 Montgomery Street, San Francisco, CA

The Italian American Bank was designed in 1907 by architect John Galen Howard to replace an earlier building that was destroyed by the 1906 Earthquake and Fire. The construction is steel-frame and concrete with granite columns in the Tuscan style. The architectural firm of Roger Owen Boyer and Associates gutted this building but retained the Montgomery and Sacramento Street facades to form part of the ground floor of 456 Montgomery Plaza (a 26 story high rise completed in 1983.)
