Rising abruptly more than 2,000 feet, Pilot Mountain has been a navigational landmark for centuries. As a state park, it is a recreational landmark as well, featuring miles of trails, camping, rock climbing and spectacular scenery. The mountain's summit, reached by a steep and winding paved road, provides ample parking and restrooms.
