Description
The Bergen Swamp is a 2,000 acre swamp and nature preserve, a relic of the prehistoric Lake Tonawanda. It is home to a wide diversity of plants and wildlife with 2,392 species of plants cataloged. Many of those plants are orchids. In addition, there are rare birds that are known to breed here.
It was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1964, the first such site to be designated.
