Description

The elaborate and elegantly proportioned, five-bay, central hall dwelling was the result of a collaboration between the skilled builder John Reynolds and his patron, the Revolutionary War hero (and lawyer) General James M. Varnum. The beautifully executed Ionic entrance porch and the overmantel in the dining room attest to that partnership's success. The buildng was restored in 1952. -- Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS RI-56)
