The building was built in 1935 and funded using Depression-era programs, specifically, Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works. Plaques on the building identify this. The design of the plaques was a standard federal design that was used on both building and bridges built using the Depression-era programs.

The distinctive metal riveted standpipe remains next to the waterworks building. The standpipe rests on a stone foundation. The standpipe may be older than the waterworks building.
