Description
The Northern steam locomotives were used by the Santa Fe in passenger service for many years. The Northern (4-8-4 wheel arrangement) was such a reliable workhorse for the railroad that 65 were built for Santa Fe by the Baldwin Locomotive Works between 1927 and 1945.
This individual was part of the last block ordered and was in use from its delivery in 1944 until it was retired in 1955. It was presented to the City of Fort Madison in 1960.
