Milwaukee Road Caboose 991950

Under construction
Welch Prairie Road at Wisconsin 80, New Lisbon, Wisconsin

Rib-sider caboose built in the Milwaukee Road shops in 1946

Overview Looking Northwest

The local chamber of commerce appears to have used this caboose as a visitor center in the past, and with work underway, must plan on using it again in the future. It is in depot-like setting including a baggage cart.

The Milwaukee Road shops built 315 of these "rib-sided" design caboose between 1939 and 1951. The rib design provides extra support, allowing the use of lighter steel to make the vehicle lighter.
