The First National Bank of Canyon City and the unnamed office building adjoining it at 112 South Washington Street were built in 1900 two years after a disastrous fire destroyed most of the wooden structures in the town.
The scroll work on the cornice bearing the date "1900" matches that on the Jett Marble Works in Baker City. Jett specialized in constructing buildings of the locally quarried tuff stone at this time.
