The Butte Brewing Company was established by Henry Munzer in 1885. It was the only one of the city's five breweries to survive prohibition. The business outlasted the dry era by marketing near beer and its Checo brand soft drinks. The Wyoming Street plant remained in operation until 1963 and was demolished in 1965. Ghosts signs scattered across the town perpetuated the memory of the local brand for the next half century until 2018 when the name was revived as a craft brew.
